Movember Jax Party!

movember jax party!

To finish up an awesome Movember for the Jacksonville Beardsmith Society, we’re hosting a Movember Party this Saturday, November 28th at Club TSI! It’s sure to be a fantastic event. There will be an awards ceremony commemorating those who participated this month. We’re also going to have donation boxes to help raise more money and a photo booth taking pictures provided by the very talented Jensen Hande.

There will also be $2 Paulaner Hefe Weizen for anybody wearing a mustache (real or fake.)

Awards will be given for the following categories:

The Lame Mo
This is an Encouragement Award for the Mo Bro who has tried his best, yet is still a wispy effort.

Best Mo in Character
As the name suggests we are looking for the Mo that matches the character/costume.

Best Mo Bro with his Mo Sista
This is awarded to the male/female duo with a great costume character/combination, similar to the Best Mo in Character but with the inclusion of a Mo Sista.

Best Team Mo
Safety in numbers with this category.

The Ultimate Mo
This is awarded to the Mo Bro purely on the grooming and styling of his Mo.

Miss Movember
The ultimate prize awarded to the stand out Mo Sista who has supported and encouraged Mo Bros.

Man of Movember
This is the ultimate prize awarded to the stand out Mo Bro who has the best Mo, costume and attitude. The Man of Movember is to be chosen from the finalists of the other categories. He has a true appreciation for the Mo and wears it proud!

Miss Movember and Man of Movember will be awarded sashes to wear proudly. Other prizes include mustache-themed gifts, art, books, and more. Anyone can attend the event and enjoy drink discounts, but only Movember participants can compete for titles and prizes.

Special thanks to Mark Barilla for designing the Movember Party poster! Please retweet, repost, and spread the word – we want a huge crowd! If you’d like a high-res version of the poster to print for your home, office or business click here.

Riverside Wine Fest Movember Bake Sale Recap

Movember Bake Sale cupcakes!

Man oh man! Jax Beard has been very very busy. Last Saturday we had our second Movember bake sale at the Riverside Wine Festival in 5points and it was a huge success. Many many thanks go out to @kelmac for helping us out and making tons of cupcakes, brownies, chocolate clusters and chocolate dipped pretzels! We sold out of just about everything! Overall we made about $425 that was donated toward the Movember Jax Stache team! I’d also like to thank Sean Todd, Katy Garrison and my lovely Sarah for helping out as well. More pictures below and you can also find other pictures here. Cheers!

Oh and if anybody would like to help donate towards the Movember cause (which would be fantastic) you may do so by clicking here.

Bring on the Staches!

mustache

Movember is in full bloom now, and everything seems to be growing (yeah I went there) quite well, especial on the Jax side of things.

We have our Bake Sale tonight and that should be pretty awesome. We’ll be outside 5pts Coffee & Spice Co. next to Steamworks during First Fridays in 5pts/Riverside. There will be a Jacksonville Beardsmith Society table set up with lots of Movember swag & tasty goodies for sale. All of the proceeds from the bake sale will go to support men’s health, which you can always learn more at www.movember.com.

Bakers include Marisa Ratliff of Sweet n Flour (shortbread mustache cookies), Sean Collins of Jax Beard (ginger butter bars), Sean Todd (oatmeal butterscotch cookies) & Chris Baker (cookies & brownies). Thanks to all of our generous bakers for helping us out.

Movember Jax Bake Sale!

mustache-cookies

Hey folks! How’s mustache growing treating you all this Movember? Man I miss my beard but I am so happy with the amount of participation we’ve had with this. Thanks to everyone who have signed up and joined the Jax Stache team. You can still sign up if you want to participate. Please do if you haven’t. You can do so by going here.

So, with that said, to help us raise more money for the event, we’re putting on a bake sale this Friday at First Fridays in front of 5Points Coffee and Spice Co. in 5 Points. We have the ever-so-talented Marisa Ratliff helping us out and will be baking some mustache cookies (not the ones pictured above). I will also be baking and we have a couple other people who will be baking and helping out as well. It’s sure to be a blasty.

We could use more bakers if you still want to help out. If you have another table to donate for the event, that would help to. I’m thinking we should walk up and down the street to try and get people to buy some baked goodies or if we have enough people, maybe set up another area to sell cookies, cakes, brownies and what-have-you. If you’re interested in helping out, baking or anything else, let me know and we’ll coordinate what to do.

Anyway, that’s it for now. I’ll be seeing you all soon. Cheers!

Movember Jax Continued

I think I forgot to mention a few things on my last post about Movember. If you are planning on participating (I really really really hope you are planning on participating) and you want to join a team, I already have one set up if anybody wants to be a part of it. The team is called Jax Stache and you can join it by going to http://us.movember.com/register/10453.

And you can also register solo or start your own team. That’s all up to you.

Once registered you’ll be sent all the information needed to get donations and get growing.

So register and help raise awareness for Men’s Health.

Cheers!

Update: There is a Pub Night tonight at Steamworks. I’ll be heading up there around 9pm, so if you’re there and you have some questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks.

Movember Jax!

MoHolding_008

I’m really excited about this event next month and I’m so behind on it. I should have posted this a long time ago. Anyway, here it is. Now some of you may know about Movember already, some may not. I’ll give you a short run-down on what it is.

Movember was started in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia. The guys behind it were really trying to bring the moustache back in style, and in order to justify their Mos (Australian slang for moustache), they used their mustaches to raise money for prostate cancer research. Ultimately with the goal of promoting men’s health.

Here’s how it works. A “Mo Bro” starts Movember (the month formerly known as November) clean shaven and naked-face. He grows a moustache all month long, and as he’s doing this, he’s gathering support from friends and family in the form of donations. This helps us get the subject of men’s health out in the open and gives us the opportunity to talk about the cancers affecting men. The moustache becomes a symbol, much like the pink ribbon is for breast cancer.

At the end of the month we’ll be throwing a party where Mo Bros can dress up to match their Mo, channeling the likes of Tom Selleck, Ghandi and Ron Burgandy, competing for the ultimate accolade:  Man of Movember. The party will be held on Saturday, November 28th at Club TSI. This is going to be a lot of fun, guys. There’s going to be an events ceremony for not just Man of Movember, but also for other awards too. I’ll post more on that later.

Now while growing a Mo is left to the guys, Mo Sistas (women who support their guys) form an important part of Movember by recruiting Mo Bros and helping to raise funds.

This Movember, the money raised in the U.S. will be split between the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund research to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund:
•    the LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance program which has the goal of improving survival rates and quality of life for young adults with cancer between the ages of 15 and 40.
•    research initiatives to further understand the biology of adolescent and young adult cancers.

To date, Movember has raised $47 million globally making it the world’s largest charity event for men. Significantly, awareness of men’s health issues has improved with Movember helping to spread important health messages directly to millions of Mo Bros & Sistas around the world.

I urge all of you to help change the face of men’s health.

For further information, visit The Movember Foundation.

You can also check out the video below.

And That’s pretty much it. I’d love for as many people as possible to join in on this. We’re even working out setting up a Bake Sale during First Fridays in 5points to raise more money. So if that’s something that anybody might be interested, please let me know and I can that organized.

So everybody please please please help support this event. Register at the Movember US and spread the word. Once you’ve registered, they’ll send you a promotional package with posters, stickers and donation boxes.

I’m really excited about this event and I hope this turns out fantastic. Cheers!
