Movember Jax Continued

I think I forgot to mention a few things on my last post about Movember. If you are planning on participating (I really really really hope you are planning on participating) and you want to join a team, I already have one set up if anybody wants to be a part of it. The team is called Jax Stache and you can join it by going to http://us.movember.com/register/10453.

And you can also register solo or start your own team. That’s all up to you.

Once registered you’ll be sent all the information needed to get donations and get growing.

So register and help raise awareness for Men’s Health.

Cheers!

Update: There is a Pub Night tonight at Steamworks. I’ll be heading up there around 9pm, so if you’re there and you have some questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks.

Movember Jax!

MoHolding_008

I’m really excited about this event next month and I’m so behind on it. I should have posted this a long time ago. Anyway, here it is. Now some of you may know about Movember already, some may not. I’ll give you a short run-down on what it is.

Movember was started in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia. The guys behind it were really trying to bring the moustache back in style, and in order to justify their Mos (Australian slang for moustache), they used their mustaches to raise money for prostate cancer research. Ultimately with the goal of promoting men’s health.

Here’s how it works. A “Mo Bro” starts Movember (the month formerly known as November) clean shaven and naked-face. He grows a moustache all month long, and as he’s doing this, he’s gathering support from friends and family in the form of donations. This helps us get the subject of men’s health out in the open and gives us the opportunity to talk about the cancers affecting men. The moustache becomes a symbol, much like the pink ribbon is for breast cancer.

At the end of the month we’ll be throwing a party where Mo Bros can dress up to match their Mo, channeling the likes of Tom Selleck, Ghandi and Ron Burgandy, competing for the ultimate accolade:  Man of Movember. The party will be held on Saturday, November 28th at Club TSI. This is going to be a lot of fun, guys. There’s going to be an events ceremony for not just Man of Movember, but also for other awards too. I’ll post more on that later.

Now while growing a Mo is left to the guys, Mo Sistas (women who support their guys) form an important part of Movember by recruiting Mo Bros and helping to raise funds.

This Movember, the money raised in the U.S. will be split between the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund research to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund:
•    the LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance program which has the goal of improving survival rates and quality of life for young adults with cancer between the ages of 15 and 40.
•    research initiatives to further understand the biology of adolescent and young adult cancers.

To date, Movember has raised $47 million globally making it the world’s largest charity event for men. Significantly, awareness of men’s health issues has improved with Movember helping to spread important health messages directly to millions of Mo Bros & Sistas around the world.

I urge all of you to help change the face of men’s health.

For further information, visit The Movember Foundation.

You can also check out the video below.

And That’s pretty much it. I’d love for as many people as possible to join in on this. We’re even working out setting up a Bake Sale during First Fridays in 5points to raise more money. So if that’s something that anybody might be interested, please let me know and I can that organized.

So everybody please please please help support this event. Register at the Movember US and spread the word. Once you’ve registered, they’ll send you a promotional package with posters, stickers and donation boxes.

I’m really excited about this event and I hope this turns out fantastic. Cheers!

Beard Art Wednesday

I know I’ve been slacking on the Beard Art lately, but whatevs. I’m back on it. Pretty soon I’m going to post about some new events and what I want to accomplish with the club.

Oh and also, I know this is late notice, but if you did some work for the Beards & Brushes Facial Hair Art show earlier this month, you can pick up your piece from Bogda Gallery either today or tomorrow. After that, I’ll take everything left home with me and you can either pick up your piece from me or I’ll get it to you. Contact me if you won’t be able to pick up your art from Bogda in the time frame and we’ll get it all figured out.

So without further adieu, here is some beard art that I’ve found on the interwebs.

Whatever you choose to do tonight, wear your beard proud.

Kendrick Kidd’s Mustache Party

Kendrick’s piece at the Beards & Brushes Facial Hair Art Show was so amazing and such a huge success that it deserves a post by itself. This was such a good idea and everybody loved it. I’m so happy that everybody participated and I know he is too. You can check out his post about his art here. Many thanks to Sarah for setting up her tripod and documenting the awesomeness. You can see all of her photos here.
